Church Visit: Palm Vista Baptist Church
Monday, August 17, 2009 @ 3:06 pm by Josh Burcham

New series one the blog. As I attend different churches from time to time I wanted to post my thoughts and encouragement that I find at those churches. My heart is found in the local church and I believe that God’s greatest tool to reach people is the church!
Church: Palm Vista Baptist Church
Vision/Mission/Calling: To help people at all stages of life become growing followers of Jesus. Didn’t hear about it in service, though.
Tag Line: It’s Like Coming Home. Felt this at Palm Vista; it really is at it’s core.
Website: www.palmvistabaptist.com
Service Attended: 10:30am
Message/Series Title: Family Ties – The Bible describes the church as a family, not on the basis of a natural forefather but a spiritual forerunner, Jesus Christ. As family members, Christians share certain responsibilities in relation to one another. When these responsibilities are fulfilled, everyone wins. Join us this Sunday at Palm Vista as we explore the responsibilities that are ours as members of the family of God.
Lesson Learned: Normally I will reserve this area for what I learned in terms of ministry, but in this case I couldn’t pass up on talking about the message. Pastor Jonathan bought some truth about the family element of the church and the roles of the different age groups. “It’s linear.” In talking about these roles, he broke apart the myth of give and take type of behavior and showed the need for linear thinking in giving. Giving should be a linear from one to another and not expect something in return. In the give and take relationships, when one stops giving, the other follows suit.
Admiration: Diversity! We live in Arizona and Surprise is not the most diverse area of our city. But Palm Vista had a level of diversity that I really admired. Not something you always see in suburbia Arizona. As heaven will be like what I experienced at Palm Vista.

Dude great idea! I would love to hear about things you see that should look or be different as well. I know this is touchy ground but you have never been one to shy away from the truth. Also, I understand that there is a fair amount of personal taste involved over certain issues, but I ma hoping it is not style related so much as system oriented. Give us some more!!!

Yeah, I thought it was a good idea. The only problem is I don’t know their pastors or staff and feel bad about posting things I would change or fix for the better without having a conversation with them first. I don’t know, maybe it doesn’t really matter.
