Next Generation Leader…I am a Andy Stanley fan and someone recommended it to me. I won’t get to it for another couple of weeks, but it looks good. I also have Nelson Searcy books Launch and Fusion coming from Amazon next week. Looks like it’s going to be some good reading for the next couple of months.

With the holidays, travelings and family being in town I haven’t even thought of posting, let alone trying to find time to do it. But here is my holidays with pictures and stories (Random Randomness Holiday Edition).

I haven’t posted in 5 days and I was giving Wendy grief for never posting. Where did I leave off? I know. I never want to live where it’s cold and it snows. I posted about shoveling the driveway at my mom’s and only hours later it looked like this:

Why people live in climates where you have to shovel every two hours is beyond me. I guess you wouldn’t have to go to the gym during the winter. There is a benefit. (Yeah, that would be the tempature)

Got to go see a hockey game while in Denver. It was a minor league, but still fun. We flew out on Thursday, almost Friday. Our flight was delayed and when we boarding I took a picture of the frozen over control to the walkway to the plane and the time we got back in to phoenix:

My sister and brother-in-laws family and my Dad, Dane and Jeff (happy Jeff I mentioned you this time) came out to visit. We had a blast. Wendy said it on her blog that she wishes we all lived closer. I’m going to second that and go find a house for them here in Phoenix! Just Kidding. Unless of course you want to. Wink. Wink.

Here are some of the pictures from there visit:

Fun was had by all. We saw Carlie Wilson’s War. Not one to recommend. It was a political movie to naked 70s women in the beginning. I don’t think it will be one I’ll post about, not really worth it. Kind of like I Am Legend. Glad I saw it once, but probably not worth buying. Just okay.

Had a great time with Wendy and Steve’s boys. They are so well behaved. Steve and Wendy might not say that, but they really are and fun to be around. Can’t wait to have my own.

Anyways, there it is my Random Randomness Holiday Edition.

How Many Five Year Olds Could You Take?

Have you ever wonder how you would do in a fight against five year olds?

This short survey will tell you approximately how many five year old children you could fight with at once. Results are based on physical prowess, training, swarm0cimbatting experience, and the flexibility of your moral compass. Here are the grounds rules:

  • You are in an enclosed area roughly the size of a basketball court
  • There are no weapons or foreign objects
  • Everyone is wearing a cup (so no kicks to the groin)
  • The children are merciless and will show no fear
  • If a child is knocked unconscious, he is “out.” The same goes for you

My Day through Pictures and Video

That would be me stopping as fast as possible before I went over the edge. Still got stuck in the snow and had to take off my board I was so deep in it. It was fun though, even though it was crazy hard and tiring.

The view of the top from the middle. It was a cool mountain, granted I only saw two, yes, two runs. My first run took me a good hour and a half and the second run I wiped out (not usual, it happened a lot today) and bruised my tail bone. It hurt, but I was determined to finish the run. Fell a couple minutes later, right back on my tail bone and this time I was done. It’s been awhile since I have felt that much pain and I was done for the day. Hopefully not as bad as last time.

Probably the best part of the day and I wasn’t even there to see it in person.
That would be Nathan! Eating SNOW!

Book Review: The BIG IDEA

Sunday, December 23, 2007 @ 8:38 am by Josh Burcham

The standard of most books and I believe more so in the ministry, is you only need to read half of the book and you have all the information you need! The Big Idea isn’t that case. Every chapter bought some more understand of the concept of the Big Idea and the chapters on planning are what I totally ate up.

The whole concept of the book is your typical family attends a typical church and leaves with over 40 ideas to apply to their lives. The adults get a 4 bullet message; four ideas, they have small group with more ideas, their kids have bible study more ideas, got youth even more. Their concept is some what of a 40 Days kind of deal, where everyone from adults to preschools all learn the same one big idea. I understand the concept. Don’t know if I’m sold on it for every age group, love the idea for adults.

It’s one of those books I hung on every chapter wanting to learn something new, but here are just a few of my highlights:

  • “If you’ve been calling yourself a Christian, you should stop. Maybe not what you were expecting? It is exactly what you and the church need – forget ever being a Christian again.” “Why? Because the last thing the mission of Jesus Christ needs is more Christians.”
  • The one year plan, having the service order nine weeks our and the service totally planned, even the message with two weeks to spare. Now that allows for the creative process to reach it’s full potential. How many times have you come up with a great idea for this weeks message series and not have enough time in a week to pull it off. Loving that idea!
  • The idea of staff not having their own offices and everyone being in community space I thought was a cool idea and I would love to see it in action. They do it so everyone is doing life together and everyone is in everyones business.
  • My heart is built for team ministry and my prayer is for God to bring that amazing team to this new church plant. Totally agreed with their reason behind it as well.

If you haven’t read it, buy it and read it. It is well wroth the money and time! Even better, click on the Amazon link below and I get some of the money back!
